Hi, simple question.

From the data in a cell is it easy to write a formular to return the all digets from the LEFT as far as the first space.

I have a range of cells, each starting with a refrence number that could be any length ( up to 12 digets ) and could include numbers and letters, but which ALWAYS is followed by a space.

ie. "PO142563 these works are for the re....." = PO142563
"789522EX works to review surface fault at ... " = 789522EX

etc.

Thanks all.

Try this...

=LEFT(A1,FIND(" ",A1)-1)

Assumes every cell will have at least one space character.
