I am trying to count the number of characters in each cell column A. When I try to use autofill to apply =LEN(A2) in column B. The values all the way down come out the same as the first one. I must have inadvertently changed some setting but I can't figure out what,
thanks
LATEST SALES BROCHURE.xls
ABCD
293_Geo_Sales120T
396_Geo_Sales120T
497_Geo_Sales120T
592_Sonoma_Sales120T
696_Sonoma_Sales120T
796_Sierra_Sales120T

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.

Do you have absolute references? I.E. =LEN($A$1)

If so, you'll always reference that cell unless you remove the $'s.

Or is Calculation set to Manual? Tools-->Options-->Calculation...

It is like this:
LATEST SALES BROCHURE.xls
ABCD
293_Geo_Sales=LEN(A2)0T
396_Geo_Sales=LEN(A3)0T
497_Geo_Sales=LEN(A4)0T
592_Sonoma_Sales=LEN(A5)0T
Sheet1

But it doesn't calculate the number of characters after the forst one. It seems to copy the same result all the way down.
