# using time formatted-cell in calculations ??

#### avd2007

##### Board Regular
I have a spreadsheet where one cell contains an hourly wage (\$20) and another cell contains an amount of time, formatted as HH:MM:SS. I.e.:

Cell A1: 20
Cell A2: 01:30:00

I want to be able to enter a formula in another cell to get the correct result for those two values when multiplied, i.e. \$30.

I know I could just enter 1.5 for the time, but we want to keep the time-formatted display and be able to calculate to the minute, i.e. the value could be somthing like 1:37:00.

Can this be done?

TIA!

### Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.

Hi

=A1*A2*24

Since Excel stores time as the fraction of a unary value (and there are 24 hours in a day).

Try this

=A1*A2*24

And format as Number.

#### VoG

##### Legend
=A1*B1*24

and format the result cell as Number.

Thanks!
