Afternoon,

I several strings of text that are causing issues on my website, I summise it's because they are not compliant wit h UTF-8 coding.

Does anyone know of a function / VBA code I can write to identify If I have any non compliant characters in a text string, and the location of these within the string ?

Thanks

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Why do you think encoding is the problem with these strings? What are they? How are they creating problems?

Thanks for the reply.

Basically symbols such as Copyright, Trademark, Registered and other special characters are causing a small box to appear on the website. I know the encoding is UTF-8, so I logically assumed that these characters are non-complient.

I imagined that these characters would have some sort of inherant value / code that I could identify by writing a piece of code / function in excel.

You probably know more than me so am happy to take any guidance !

Thanks

Excel isn't, I'm extracting the product information from the back of the web and dumping it in excel to analyse. The data comes out fine, and looks fine when it goes in, but the web can't handle these characters.

I'm just trying to use excel to identify which text strings (product descriptions) have these characters in so I can see how big the issue is.

I afraid it's just not clear how to help. VBA in and of itself is not very good when it comes to this kind of thing - it got it's start before unicode. I don't know of any easy way to use VBA to find copyright symbols and such, in any case - especially if we don't really if know what it is that we are looking for (though if it is just copyright symbols and you can give some idea of how you are working with this data we could tackle it one at at time. Just saying your analysing data from the web in Excel tells me about nothing at all).
