validating hyperlinks

Using the hyperlink function, i've built a column of cells that combine the basic string of a url with the decoration held in a cell in a column to the left. This has resulted in a good hit rate on the site concerned with 60%+ of the built hyperlinks working and taking me to the right page.

I'd like to validate the resulting links in order to identify those that will not work. If you try and follow them manually the standard Excel error (no idea what the code is) of "Unable to open ....... The Internet site reports that the item you requested could not be found (HTTP/1.0 404).

Any ideas how I can find out which of the built hyperlinks are going to fail without actually clicking on them manually?
