Validation Problem

I've setup the validation column, but when I select an entry from the drop down list, it does not filter the results to display only the item I selected.

I was hoping not to rely on filter, but was wondering if this could be done without using filter.

When they said...
When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".
Validation and filter are different things.

I think you would need to use code to do a filter combined with validation.

What are you actually trying to do?

I have a spreadsheet with columns of information. I have also set up the validation rules needed and have selected the fields that have information in them.

I want to be able to choose a name from the drop down list and have it show only the row(s) of information which contain the information in the field that I have selected (make sense?)

I've tried using both the filter and validation options together to no avail. Like I said, I know I can do this using a filter, but I was thinking that the validation feature should also work.

Thanks.

No, data validation won't do that.

I believe you're thinking of Autofilter. That will create dropdown arrows in each column for you to choose from, and show only the data for the selection you've made, without having to set anything up.

It's under Data\Filter\Autofilter.
