Good Afternoon,

I have a spreadsheet and I'm just adding 2 columns(=g5+g6), it is coming back #VALUE. I've tried putting it on another spreadsheet and I keep getting the same thing. Please help....

Spell Check in Excel
Press F7 to start spell check in Excel. Be careful, by default, Excel does not check Capitalized Werds (whoops)
I suspect that one of the cells has is not blank but has a space in it.

Wrap a SUM around your formula ie: =sum(g5+g6). that should return a valid number.

Hi Doug T.

Yes one of the spaces are blank and the other space has a number in it.

=TRIM(G5)+TRIM(G6)

will probably work. However, try to remove the space char(s) if any from G5 and G6, so that simple

=G5+G6

can succeed.

The trim did not work. Attached is a pice of my spreadsheet. Where the cell is blank is a formula and on the side I have were the cell is blank and that there is a "1", which is coming from another formula.

I tried that and it worked! Is it because "=" is so broad that Excel was getting confused??

Sum() ignores the non-numerical cell values.... just using a + argument doesn't.
