variables and ranges

Is possible to assign a range of cells to a variable? if so how would i do it. I have tried VAR1=range("a1:a5") but VBA doesn't like this.

Any help much appreciated.

Try:

Dim VAR1 as Range
Set VAR1 = Range("A1:A5")

Dim X As Range

Set X = Range("A1:F10")
