VBA Code to tar.gz a bunch of files

I have two folders called "images" and "thumbs" and would like to tar.gz all the files inside these folders (flat structure).

Reason for this is to upload to my server and untar - that would be faster than ftp-ing the images individually i think..

Any help or other alternatives would be much appreciated

Hi Norie, think i remember you from ozgrid! i am not using anything at the moment - I just read this format would be better than .zip - i wouldn't mind if I .zip the files either - just looking for the best solution as it's about 10,000 of them..

I had a look and a few people were asking similar questions.

The most common suggestion appeared to be to use the command line, which I suppose you could use via Shell.

Of course you would need to be using something, eg WinRAR, what could be executed via the command line.

ok norie, this is quite helpful.. i have winrar and winzip so i hope i can find some code around the internet.. everyone feel free to post a working solution here as well - will try all suggestions..
