I've hunted the board, can't find out the answer to this one:

I go to protect my VBA project in the VBA Editor. Excel asks for a password. I put one in, and every single time I get the message "invalid password" along with the dialog box telling me that my project is locked. Which, of course, it is not.

I've tried short passwords, long passwords, alphanumeric passwords, CApS AnD LowER case passwords, you-name-it. No luck.

Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on? Note that I have this issue on Excel here at work and at home. Excel 2003. Different copies of Excel, too... I'm thinkin' I musta screwed something up, but don't know what. Please help!!

Thanks in advance!

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
Sounds like a password got set on the VBA project. Whether intentional or accidental, or by someone else.....

No way around it I'm afraid. At least not by any means you'll find here.

Just to check - you definitely selected your project before trying to add the password?

Are you sure it's your project causing the problem?

I recently came across an attachment from an OP where I could see the code.

But then I got the error message that a reference or library was missing.

Then I was prompted for a password but I was able to cancel that out.

So I'm thinking the old Tools>References..., check for MISSING gig.

Nope, prompted for password again.

Eventually the OP posted the password but by that time I was a wee bit fed up so left the project for a particularly rainy day.:)

Oh, one other thing: do you have Google Desktop installed?

Well, I don't think I was exactly selecting my project properly! This is the first time in all the years I've been Excel-ing that I've needed to protect a project.

So, with the suggestions here, I got it solved!

THANKS to all!
