Hi

It is amazing to see how brilliant some of you users are with regards to VBA....honestly i do not know hardly anything about VBA but would sure like to learn.
1. Do you need to be a programmer or done some training to learn how to write codes in VBA
2. What is the best way to learn VBA?
3. How do you know what type of words to use to make the code successful

Thanks for any feedback

Jason

There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN

1. No, it is not necessary (though it might make the learning curve less steep if you have had some experience).

2. It depends on your preferred style of learning. A lot of colleges, universities, and professional training centers offer short introductory classes. There are also some great introductory books with CDs. You may be able to find some on-line tutorials as well.

3. One great tool is the Macro Recorder. If you turn the Macro Recorder on, and perform a bunch of steps manually in Excel, then stop the Recorder, you can view the code you just Recorded. This is a great way to see how VBA views what you are doing. Even now, many of us experts will start certain tasks with Recording some code (we don't have all this code stuff memorized!), then editing the code to clean it up (usually, to make it more dynamic).

And as always, it you have any specific questions, we are always here!:)

there are good books available including quite a few from this web site, best way to learn VBA is to start with a project, something you do every now and again or every day which would be easier if you could "just press a button" and it does those 2 or 3 steps or even 50 steps . Once you know where you want to be look at examples, ask questions , ask yourself "what needs to happen here , I'm guessing there are not many people on this forum who know every single keyword and function , but they all asked the same 3 questions you just did.
