Hi everyone 70+yrs old man in need of help.
I've spent the lock-down period compiling a basic [Racing Form] spreadsheet, and it's taken that long to do as I'm a complete novice. :( Anyway, I'd like to get the racing result into the spreadsheet using excel vba. Can anyone-one help this old codger with his hobby by showing the method so as I can analyse the results compared to the rating system I use. Many thanks.

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
With description like that, I have no idea what you were talking about (at least for me). It would help if you install XL2BB and post copy of excel sheet for better understanding.

Where the date comes from and in what format?
How you spreadsheet will be laid out and what kind of analysis?

Sorry, being old is never a good thing.
All I would like to know is how do I import Racing Post racing results into a spreadsheet, so I don't have to do it manually. [copy and paste] etc.

Hi,
Welcome to the board.
Start with an empty worksheet, just as an experiment.
On the DATA page tab, left hand side, there is a "Get External Data" section.
select "From Web"
In the Address bar, type:- https://www DOT racingpost DOT com/results/
Click import.

Have a play with it trying the different options available.
Its a bit fiddly and can take loads of time to refine what you need but this will give you a start. I have only used it once (today with this example) so I can't really help with additional refinements.
I have a feeling that you may revert to a manual copy and paste, its easier!

good luck.
Paul.
(Spring chicken, by comparison)

edit
change DOT to an actual .

Probably would help to let us know which web page you are trying to get the data from, but @Taul might have put you on the right track

Hi,
If you want to take it to the next level, the key word to search for is "web scraping" or "excel VBA web scraping".
There are quite a few posts on this board on that subject, so its worth searching this board and also a general google search.
