i had always thought that this was so easy, but now that i actually look into it i am completly stuck

all i want to do i retrieve 3 or 4 cells from another XL file in the same folder... i cant use pivot table or OBDC drivers... (whatever they are) they are not installed on the pc and its at work, so not much i can do about that.... i know this can be done with macros but i havent the faintest idea as to where to begin.. i tried searching for some messages on this board and even other newsgroups but it doesnt seem too many people talk about it :)

any help i sgreatly appreciated....

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
Ah, this I can do!

Just use the path of the XL file in the reference.

eg:
Book3
ABCD
1These refer to this sheet:These refer to another:
210361035
361366135
41725217251
537107.0237106.02
6123559.06123558.06
...

To make it really easy,
just type "+" (without the quotes!) in a cell, and then click on the cell in the sheet to which you wish to refer. The contents will fill in automatically like when you do this on the same sheet.
Then hit enter. You can go back then and play with the formula, but the reference is made, sans silly syntax errors...

Hello,

to do it the very simple way:

open both workbooks (workbook 1 and workbook 2). Click on the cell you want the same data in, put = in there and go to the cell in the workbook you want your data from and click there once. Followed by Enter.

Now you get something like:
='[Workbook 1.xls]Sheet'!$A$1

Hi,

Are you saying that you just want to have a particular cell, say A1, in Workbook1 reference the value of another cell, say B1, in Workbook2?

If so proceed as follows:
1. Open Workbook1
2. Open Workbook2
3. Select A1 on Workbook1 (use the Window option on the menu to switch between open workbooks)
4. Press the "=" key
5. Go back to workbook2 (using Window again) and select B1.
6. Press enter

Thats it! :)
