VLOOKUP across SharePoint 2007

I am using an excel 2007 workbook as a basic form that returns lookup data from another workbook. Both files reside in sharepoint 2007 document libraries.

I'm using a simple VLOOKUP function and the values are being returned just fine - my problem is that including these formulae makes the filesize jump to about 7MB.

There are only about 80 lookups being performed and the formaula is not terribly complex. I've never known the location of a lookup to affect the filesize like this. I need to retain the lookup formula but the size of the file is too large to use as a form for remote users

Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here?
