VLOOKUP and a COUNTIF?

Hi all,

I have a fairly straightforward table... similar to below but with a few more columns...
Focus here is on the NAMES and IDEA VIABLE columns.

I have set up stats on another page to count ideas raised by person using the =countif(column of names, name in cell reference)... this returns that ally has 2 x ideas, steve has 2 x ideas.
I'm now wondering if its possible to count number of viable / yes ideas per person.

The real spreadsheet is counting ideas for 50 people and ideas is currently up around 32 (new project).
Would like to graph who has the highest number of viable ideas.

I thought a Vlookup might work, but this doesnt count the number of ideas, simply returns the first value for the name (Yes or No).
Is there a formula to combine the vlookup and the countif?

Eg - if column A = Ally, count "yes".

Thanks in advance!

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
