I have an excel spreadsheet with company names in column A, sales team member names in column B and amounts in column C - which is the 2007 sales target numbers.

I have a spreadsheet with Sales team member column A, company names in column B and amounts in column C - which is the actual sales. This is imported into excel.

Can anyone help advise the appropriate formula to use to enable me to track actual vs target sales by sales team member and client?

Is it vlookup I should use?

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
sure...use the sales person as the lookup and the columnar fields with the sales data as the results

Oh, i just noticed you want to track by client too.....why not make a pivot table off of the data and pull in the necessary fields?

Using a multiple vlookup formula?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but excel is a bit like the dark arts to me - i know hee-haw about it!

forget about the vlookup....if you have data arranged by company, sales team, and targets, just highlite all the data and do a pivot table to extract and compare next to each other the columns you need....are you familiar with pivot tables ?

I'm OK with pivot tables. I just wondered if there was an easier way to do this and thought that maybe using vlookup or sumif (neither formula I'm particularly familiar with) would maybe work out better.

Cheers for the advise - appreciated.
