using a vlookup to search for data in a different sheet which works fine, but when the data is changed in the remote sheet it doesnt pick up the changes and shows what the old information was.

Only way i can make it pick up the changes is reneter the formula in the original sheet any ideas??

If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
even if i change to match index formula still the same

Code:
=IF(ISNA(INDEX('S:\New\[Doc1.xlsx]Sheet1'!$Z$2:$Z$100,MATCH(A1,'S:\New\[Doc1.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$2:$A$100,0)))," ",INDEX('S:\New\[Doc1.xlsx]Sheet1'!$Z$2:$Z$100,MATCH(A1,'S:\New\[Doc1.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$2:$A$100,0)))
