vlookup issue between different tabs

Hi,

I'm having issues in manually typing a vlookup formula when the lookup list is on a different tab or file, however the function wizard still works fine.

Basically, the lookup_value (cell reference) changes (when I select my table array on a different tab) from the tab I want the lookup_value to be in, to the tab / file where my table_array is.

I've searched online and can't seem to identify any solutions, but guess it's something pretty simple such as a setting somewhere.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jim

Excel Facts

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.
Thanks for the link, to be more precise.... if I try to type the below formula in sheet1:

=VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet2!A:B,2,FALSE)

When I select columns A:B in Sheet2, the lookup value changes from A1 in Sheet1, and puts it in A1 Sheet2 which is where the lookup range is.

The vlookup formula then gets added into a random cell on sheet 2 instead of sheet 1.

Thoughts?
