vlookup or match formula - maybe

I want to vlookup or match on sheet1 to return a value from sheet2 with a negative row offset.

In M2 of sheet1:

The value is L2 from sheet1.
The Range is B2:X2 from sheet2.

If exact is found I want the value directly above it.

Example

L2 = 1/22/2005 on sheet1, look up 1/22/2005 on sheet2 between B2&X2.
Exact match is found in R2. M1 = sheet2 R1 value.
