I am using a formula [=VLOOKUP(A10,[grid.xls]Inventory!$1:$65536,9,FALSE) and it's returning "inaccurate" information.

i.e. i'm referencing #3202 and i'm getting results for #13202.

It was my understanding that "false" in the formula, dicatates only exact matches. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
What you say is correct, FALSE should return ONLY EXACT matches... that is very odd that it is returning inaccurate info. The solution is by me...

Hi Ravi:

Reference to the LookUp range as $1:$65536, in versions of EXCEL earlier than 2007 would mean refering to range of columns A:IV -- so that part is OK.

I suggest OP post part of the data showing the LookUp value , the LookedUp value so one can see what is going on here.

just a suggestion: using 65536...isn't that dangerous? It'll create alot of lag? why not place with a variable 65536?

say max rows is 10,000
you can use countA to determine the max number of rows.
[=VLOOKUP(A10,[grid.xls]Inventory!$1:$10000,9,FALSE)
