Hi

my vlookup returns a result only when the ref i want (in H359) is at the beginning of the cell (in Sheet2);

=VLOOKUP(H359&"*",Sheet2!$U$1:$V$876,2,FALSE)

What can I use to search an entire cell where the ref might be imbedded in a string of text?

Excel Facts

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce
try this

=VLOOKUP("*"&H359&"*",Sheet2!$U$1:$V$876,2,FALSE)
