Vlookup + suma

Hello All,
Thanks in advance for your help.
My question is that I want to find out how to lookup a table in excel and add all the like named values together.
Example:
Max 17
Tom 4
Chris 20
Max 10
Jim 12
Tom 15

So the function I want is to have a chart at the bottom of my table totalling all the values for each name

Max (add all max´s numbers together)
and so on down the line

That's SUMIF

=SUMIF(A1:A6,"Max",B1:B6)

You might try a pivot table also. That was you don't have to write a formula for each name. Make sure the top of the columns have headings. Then names would be the row lable and amount would be the values.
