I want to do a vlookup and if #N/A is returned do the lookup on a different sheet. Is this possible?

vlook up one
VLOOKUP(A1,'2002'!$A$1:$B$2341,2,FALSE)

vlookup two
VLOOKUP(A1,'1997'!$A$1:$B$1810,2,FALSE)

I tried to combine with an If but it did not work

=IF(VLOOKUP(A1,'2002'!$A$1:$B$2341,2,FALSE)="#N/A",VLOOKUP(A1,'1997'!$A$1:$B$1810,2,FALSE),VLOOKUP(A1,'2002'!$A$1:$B$2341,2,FALSE))

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type

Try

=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(A1,'2002'!$A$1:$B$2341,2,FALSE)),VLOOKUP(A1,'1997'!$A$1:$B$1810,2,FALSE),VLOOKUP(A1,'2002'!$A$1:$B$2341,2,FALSE))

That is pretty simple

I was looking in the help files, and ISNA was never mentioned.

But of coarse now that I know what to look for, I see it

Thanks NVBC
