this one is curious
windows 98 locale /keyboard set to uk/british, excel 97
if i place a date in a cell (eg. 22/12/02)hit enter i get 22/12/2002 ( a uk date format)which is fair enough however if i then move to another cell the date changes to 12/22/02 in the american style format.
Is this another BILLious attack or am i missing something

thanks for any help

chris

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.
This happens in a brand new workbook?

Do you have anything in your XLSTART folder?

Do you have a personal.xls folder?

What are the date settings under Start-Settings-Control panel, regional settings?

thanks for prompt reply
this happens on a new work book and is consistant on any of thirty odd
machines
there is nothing in the xlstart or personal.xls folders
machine locale is set to uk and the date settings are dd/mm/yyyy and dd mmmm
yyyy
all machines run windows 98 with office 97 (SP 1 & 2) straight
Although this does not seem to pose a problem, once one of the users noticed
it they are all asking about it now

thanks for any help

chris

I perusing the Net I recall reading that XL defaults to the American Date style. You have to format it to other standards.
