We are purchasing a dedicated server, SharePoint, and Excel 2013 throughout our company to begin building a BI solution. To test the capabilities of PowerPivot, we built multiple database tables in MySQL(free version). Each table is used in PowerPivot as a source of information used in our test PowerPivot tables.
Initially, we were going to also purchase SQL Server and convert the MySQL tables over. The question has now arisen "Why can't we just use MySQL". SharePoint comes with a limited version of SQL Server.
Can someone explain the benefits of SQL Server over MySQL? Are there critical processes/features that MySQL would not do or have?
