what's wrong with my IF statement?

            If ActiveCell.Text = "J750*" Or ActiveCell.Text = "=A5*M*" Then ActiveCell.EntireRow.Hidden = True
            ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select
            Loop

the wildcard character is not working...y is that?

Try using the Like operator instead ie:

ActiveCell.Text Like "J750*"

Have a look at the help file on the Like operater for more info.
