I have a spreadsheet with various text in column a, what I want to do is tell excel to look for particular text in column a, and if it's there, look at column l and add up the total amount in column l for all the cells in column a with the text I want

ie I want to find all the Joe Bloggs (column A) and all up all his expenses (column L), but the figures in column L, will, in the future, change.

HELP!

Excel Facts

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
i know how to do the first bit
ie =countif(sheetname!a1:100,"=joe bloggs")

but i need to tell it that if it find joe bloggs it needs to add up the relevant cell in column L.
(so all expenses for joe bloggs added up)

What do I need to add.
