Why isn't this LESS THAN ZERO conditional format working??

I have a work book I am trying to make a certain range of cells read if any value of a particular cell is less than 0 then make it red and bold.

My range is G3 through G4...each cell has a simple formula in it...which is the difference between estimated hours and actual hours. I want the cell to turn red and bold when the remaining hours get into negative category.

For example the formula in G4 is D4-O4 (estimated hours minus actual hours)....Im trying to make the simple condition of red and bold if G4 is negative.

I am highlighting G4 through G25
Then going to conditional formatting/new rule/use a formula to determine which cells to format

under "Format values where this formula is true: I am putting in <0

then setting my format to red and bold.

I plug in a negative number in G4 to test it and it doesn't work..no red.no bold.

I did a similar conditional format for a different range of cells on the same worksheet...Q4 through Q25....which the condition is if a cell value in the range is greater than 100% then make that particular cells value red and bold and that condition works perfect using the same steps I mentioned above.

So what am i doing wrong with the G4 through G21 condition?

=G4<0

ok..thats working...and thank you and thanks to everyone...but why would my other condition work with the greater than 100% work and this less than zero condition didnt, even though i followed the same steps???
