Why Would Data Validation Error Alerts Not Function

This one doesn't make sense to me.

I'm working on a project using data validated lists. For some, I'm leaving the error alert setting on "Stop", and for others I'm using the "Information" setting to permit entry of something other than the specific list values.

I have a situation where I'm not getting a consistent response from these settings. In some cells, I'll have the error alerts set to "Stop" (and the box checked to show the alert), and I can enter text manually without getting any alert warning. Other cells set the same way on the same page work as they should.

Anyone have an idea why or how this could occur?

I use these data validation feature all the time and have never seen this behavior before. I've tried clearing the cells and re-setting them, with the same results. I don't get it...

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
If your conditions are identical try copying the cell that works correctly to the cell that is not. See if that corrects it.

If that doesn't work, is there any event code working?

John - thanks for responding.

I had already thought to copy and paste. I still have some strange results, as the following explains:

a) Copy a cell with data validation error alerts that are working properly

b) Paste in a new location and test for error alerts - alert works as it should

c) In the new cell location, change only the list source on the setting page of data validation, save, and then check for error alerts - alerts no longer work as they should

Without touching anything on the error alert page, it goes from working properly to not working by only changing the data source. Can't figure this one out....
