I think I know the answer to this ....... I have a wkbk with a database which pivottables extract data from. I prefer to not add other columns of data to the DB, which would be one answer to my need. I would like to add a second database.

Question is - can the wkbk contain two databases? If so, what would you call the second database? If my memory serves me, the DB needs to be named 'database'.

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
You can put one table in each sheet of the workbook. The book will then look like a database with several tables. For example (using ms-query) the table from Sheet1 will be called Sheet1$, and so on. You can build your query accordingly.

I think i recall reading that the database needs to be 'named' database.

Is this true? Or can I name a database anything I want.

I suppose experimenting is an option here, but don't want to mess with the database I have going now. Of course - experimenting with a copy would work too. Guess I'll try some experimental database naming.

If you're talking extracting Pivot tables from one database, but based on different blocks of columns, you can define different names in the database, don't have to be "Database", and refer to those names in Step 2 of the Pivot Table Wizard.
