word document into excel

my friend had an excel document that when she tried to save it it asked if she wanted to put into word format......not being totally comp literate with excel she ticked on yes and it was now saved as a word .doc...... questions is how does she put it back into an excel .doc????

Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Depending on the data, you could paste the data into a notepad page and save this as a text file and then open the file in Excel which will allow you to define the field widths of the incoming data. This will not be easy if some of the fields are text of widely differing lengths.

Before doing anything anyone says, I'd create a backup copy just in case what they say causes irrevocable damage.

I'm not claiming that this will solve your problem, but what happens if you right click and open with Microsoft Excel?
