Workbook_Open () not being executed

The sub Workbook_Open () are not being executed. Not when I load excel and the open the workbook or when I do both together. I have checked and the enable events is set to true. I am fairly new to the subject of VBA so please do not assume. I have another macro running in this workbook if that helps. I am using Office 2016.

Private Sub Workbook_Open()
MsgBox "It works"
End Sub

Where do you have the code? It should be in the ThisWorkbook module, not a general module.

Perhaps i'm reading it wrong but i feel i have to answer:
The workbook_open event should be in: project(the file) -> Microsoft Excel Object(looks like a folder in Windows) -> ThisWorkbook (usually the last, its icon as a blank excel sheet)
