hi am working on a sheet with some protected and unprotected cells- am not able to insert comments on the cells that are unprotected- how can i do that without unprotecting the other cells that i need to keep protected

What you can do is that, probably you can actually use macro code to unprotect the sheet and then write code to insert comments and in the end you can protect the sheet.
