A bit of mystery on this one?

I have a worksheet password protected with 'leopard'. The old password was 'penguin', however both passwords unlock the worksheet?

I can only imagine that Excel converts each password and they both end up being the same? DOes anyone have a full explanation to avoid this in future?

Cheers,

Jamie

Which version of Excel are you using, and which release is it?

The only thing I can recommend is to make sure you are up-to-date on posting all the patches and service packs for whatever release you are on (in case it was a bug that was identified and fixed in one of the patches/service packs).

This problem occurs in both Excel 2003 and 2007.

I am aware that Excel translates a worksheet password into something aloong the lines of 'ABBBAABAAA' followed by a chareter but I woudl have thought that these would all be unique?

Many thanks,

Is there an easy way to replicate the hash result of string? This way I can ensure two words do not have the same result?
