Hi Mr Excel people

I have an Excel 2007 file opening problem, suddenly,

"The file is corrupted and cannot be opened."

i was using this file quite well up until this morning. There is a macro within it, but the macro just hides and unhides comments in cells. There are dates in the far left column, and the rest is just text. The file size is around 210kb. All in all it is a basic simple spreadsheet.
Can anyone tell me why a file like this suddenly becomes unopenable, and why I am seemingly unable to repair it using all the conventional methods, which is why i come to the forum now.

Would appreciate any help or new way i can try to recover the file that perhaps has worked for someone else.

Thanks
Craig

You can try using links to recover data in a corrupt file.

First have you a backup? NO, Shame on you.

Try first to use Diagnose and repair feature in Excel 2007
Click on help and type Diagnose and repair, follow instructions.

Otherwise you could try this ~

Open a new workbook and in cell A1 type ~

=[C:\Files\[your corrupt file name here.xlsm]Sheet1!A1
Copy that formula Down then across for as many rows and columns you think the corrupt file had. This will hopefully recover your data but not any formulas unfortunately.

Thanks Asking. Yes I have a backup. So at home last night on another computer i restored the backup onto a flash drive, then this morning when i went to copy from the flash drive onto my other work computer the same things happened. i could not open the file again, so now i have to do all the restoration again. I think i might have to rebuild the file at home as there may be some damage to the sector on my work computer where the file is housed, because i keep saving or copying the file to the same location. Can this happen, where a sector gets damaged so everytime you save or copy to that place with the same file name you will get corrpution issues?
Thanks
