XL2007 new Function Parameter CELL("coord";ref)

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Interesting...

How did you get this parameter value? I cannot find it documented in any of my usual places.

The result I get is something very bizarre. It is always $A:{cell referred to in the function} such as $A:$G$2. It doesn't look like a valid range reference, does it?

So, unless someone else can make sense of the parameter value, I'd guess it's an error. Might be something left over from something MS was thinking of adding but didn't quite do it thoroughly.

very bizarre...good definition!!
You can find this issue in the help of Excel 2007.
You can to begin with the "Add Function Icon", together the formulas-Bar.
I"ve got a Spanish Office version.

It's not new to 2007. As far as I know it returns the cell reference in Lotus format - i.e. it's the equivalent of @COORD (whatever that does!) :)

Somebody know how works the function CELL("Coord";Reference)?
Hi!

This function is available in Excel97...2003, 2007 as well, but the 1st string parameter depends from localization.

You can use, for example: "ROW", "COLUMN", "ADDRESS" parameter as you can type it in the Excel formula, taking into account localization.
Check its exact typing in Excel help for the CELL() function.

Examples for English version of Excel:
=CELL("ADDRESS",C20) returns $C$20
=CELL("ROW",D3) returns 3
=CELL("COL",D3) returns 4

For Spanish version use ";" instead of "," and use localized string codes instead of the English one.

Regards,
Vladimir
