I have a spreadsheet with zip codes entered. Some are 5 digits and some are 9 digits. I want this formatted with 5 digits then I will need to filter only unique records.

I used the = left(cell, 5) formula which worked great on formatting the Zip Code to 5 digits but I can't filter unique records, (I think the zip code is formatted as text.

Any suggestions,

Vickie

Welcome to MrExcel - you could create an entire Text listing by

=TEXT(LEFT(A1,5),"00000")

Copy -->Paste special | Values

Copy down B as far as data in A, then filter on column B.
