I have a file I need to e-mail in different places around the world so the size of this Excel file makes a difference.

Using Excel 2010 and file is in compatibility mode.
Excel File size = 806kb
When I unprotect the workbook and zip its size is 124kb
When I protect the workbook and zip it, its size is 673 kb

I am at a loss.. I need to protect the work book to prevent changes to structure but when I do the zip size of the file increases considerably.

Would be very grateful for any suggestions that I could try.

Many thanks

Hi,

Unforunatly there is not much you can do - this has always been a problem.

As the protection 'encrypts' the workbook compression programs find it hard to compress this encryption.

You could maybe try different compression software and see if that helps, but I doubt it.

Thanks James, I thought so too.
Was just hoping against hope that there is a way to do this.
