Parsing with Characters

I have a number with 8 digits. How can I format it to appear as 12/3456/78?

From the menu, select Format - Cells. On the numeric tab, select Custom. In the custom box, type 99\/9999\/99

When you are typing custom number formats, you can insert any single text character by preceeding it with a backslash.
