    Default Summarize Dropping Leading Zeros

Summarize is dropping leading zeros from the group by field even though the original data and the result show this field as text.

(the drilldown on these entries finds no matches of course)

    Anyone have any suggestions?

You can put the leading zeros back by highlighting the column values and then using Easy-XL -> Cells -> Convert Selected Cells -> Add Leading Zeros.

This problem is related to the way Excel interprets values that are fed to it on the fly. I'll see if we can improve the way Easy-XL handles this situation.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not seeing that option under convert selected cells. I don't think that would work anyway as the ID's can have from 1 to 3 leading zeros...some not any...and throw in some text ID's in mix just make me pull my hair out!

As a side note: it seems that once I get the Drop Down error that no matching records were found, I get the same error on the same sheet even when trying to drill down text ID's. I did a small subset of the data...text only ID's and did the summarize and all was ok then with the drill downs.

I break programs all the time!

    Thanks for your time.

The add leading zeros pads the column with zeros based on the length that you specify.

The first release of Easy-XL didn't include this option in the Ribbon. It should be available when you right-click a cell and get Excel's cell context menu.
