Hello, Am having an issue in Office 365's Excel 2016 (v1702 (build 7870.2038))

I am attempting to have all new workbook / worksheets to use custom styles defined in Book.xltx and Sheet.xltx respectfully.
Steps taken include:

  1. Create the styles, save as Book.xltx and Sheet.xltx respectfully.
  2. Placed files in C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
  3. Verified in VBA Immediate Window(? application.StartupPath ) is C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
  4. Verified location (and subfolders) are trusted locations
  5. Have tried using 'other folders' just for testing, after making sure they were trusted:
(as I test I remove them so as to not cause issues with files everywhere)

  • C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
  • C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16\XLSTART\
Even tried template and library folders for the heck of it:
  • C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Root\Templates\
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16\Library\

Still, no luck.

Any help appreciated! :)

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney

It's been several months, but have you found a solution to this? I'm in the same boat as you. I had my Book.xltm in appdata\roaming\microsoft\excel\xlstart, but then when we switched to Office 365, my Book.xltm no longer opens. I tried placing Book.xltm in the same places that you did with no luck, and I tried the suggestions in sijpie's link, but that didn't work either.

Thanks

I was able to resolve this by disabling the Start screen in Excel.

I had the exact same problem. You all previous posters didn't clarify whether your Sheet.xltx file was working - mine was working fine. I'd open a new workbook & it would be the dumb default, but if I added a sheet it would be my lovely default sheet.

The problem was the same whether I picked "blank workbook" from the start screen or just hit ctrl-N at any time.

However, by going to File->Options

Then General->Start up options-> uncheck "Show the Start screen when this application starts"

And now it's using my lovely template.

Best of luck!

Hi I had the same problem as Mr Schreibman and tried a number of different solutions as he did. I finally succeeded after Theft solution:
File-> Options > General>Start up options > uncheck "Show the Start screen when this application starts".
Microsoft should have made this more clear to the user.
