I have a worksheet with information and I want to grab another piece of information from another sheet.
In the Data sheet, the names are in a certain order, and I used the index match function to lookup the name in the lookup sheet in the data sheet, but I am getting wrong values.
I am using this formula:
Code:
[HTML]=INDEX(Data!B:B,MATCH(Lookup!A3,Lookup!A:A,0))[/HTML]
Can someone please help me?
Thanks in advance.

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
=INDEX(Data!B:B,MATCH(Lookup!A3,Lookup!A:A,0))
1. Why do you say it is returning the wrong answer? What does it give and what did you expect?
2. What does the MATCH return?
3. what is in A3 and what is in

View the file and see for yourself, the value returned in the lookup sheet do not match.
Index Match
A3, is the lookup value.

This seems weird to me
=INDEX(Data!B:B,MATCH(Lookup!A3,Lookup!A:A,0))
Indexing the sheet named data
But your lookup value AND lookup range are on a sheet named Lookup (in the same column)

I'm thinking you probably want this
=INDEX(Data!B:B,MATCH(Lookup!A3,Data!A:A,0))

I get values from other cells.
A3 is the lookup value.
Is the formula correct?
I have the lookup value in A3, and I am looking for data in the data sheet.
