Monday morning brain lock..

Im looking to show percentage growth my current formula used is:

Find the percentage of change between two numbers

A company sold $485,000 in 2011 and $598,634 in 2012. What’s the percent change between the two years?
First, click in cell B3 to apply the Percentage format to the cell. On the Home tab, click the Percentage button.
If you are using Excel Online, click Home > Number Format > Percentage.
In cell B3, divide the second year’s sales ($598,634.00) by the first year ($485,000.00), and then subtract 1.
$485,000 in cell A2, $598,634 in cell B2, and 23% in cell B3, the percentage of change between the two numbers
Here’s the formula in cell C3. =(B2/A2)-1. The percentage of change between the two years is 23%.
Notice the parentheses around (B2/A2). Excel calculates what’s in parentheses first, and then subtracts the 1.

Problem
It does not show growth passed 100%. Do i need a maths lesson or a better formula ?

Excel Facts

Re: Percentage Formula Help

My figure should show growth beyond 100%

It would be way beyond 100 as an increase of 100 percent of 1 is 2.

So if 1 is in cell A1 and 131 is in cell B1 you could use this...

=(B1-A1)/A1

...which would show an increase of 13000% !!!

Re: Percentage Formula Help

That works. However, if

A1 0
B1 1

My answer should be 100% sadly i get the DIV/0! error..

Re: Percentage Formula Help

You cant calculate a percentage increase from 0. Why is it 100%?
