Excel 2016 Shutdown (incl. not asking to save)

The other day I noticed that when I "x'd" out of Excel, it did not ask to save changes. (I actually thought I saved changes before "x'ing" out). I opened my workbook and nothing was saved.

So I was working today and purposefully x'd out without saving changes and Excel just closed.

I decided to test it by opening a blank workbook, typed a "1" in cell A1 and then x'd out, and again it did not ask to save.

As a side note, even with a blank workbook with nothing to save, Excel is taking 15-20 seconds to shut down (little blue circle and Excel is "not responding" in the information bar) so something wonky is happening during shutdown.

Anyone else had this?

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
