Public Object loses scope in another module??

Hello,

I confess I am relatively new to classes. I have declared an object variable at the top of module A thus:

Code:
   Public Teams As Collection

The object is created in a procedure called "Create_Objects", also in module A:

Code:
   Set Teams = New Collection

Without going into too much detail, this collection is working fine when referenced by procedures in the A module. As soon as execution switches to a procedure in module B, an attempt to reference this object results in "438: Object does not support this property or method"??

I stopped the code on the line immediately before (the last line in the A module procedure) and I got the correct result from typing "?Teams(1).Name" in the immediate window. As soon as execution was in module B, the error occurred. I thought Public meant Public...?

Thanks for your concern.

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
How are you populating the collection Teams?

How is execution switching between modules/subs?

Hello Norie. Thanks again for your assistance. Just found a big clue and solved the issue, but could do with knowing how I did it. The Teams collection is a member of Tournament. I can reference Teams within module A by just using Teams. When execution passes to module B (through a procedure call, initially triggered by a worksheet event, to answer your second question) I have to use Tournament.Teams. I would have expected some consistency - i.e. that I would be required to fully state the reference on every occasion, or not...?

Here's how I'm populating it:

Code:
Sub Create_Objects()

   Dim oRound As clsRound
   Dim oGame As clsGame
   Dim oTeam As clsTeam
   Dim aoTeam() As clsTeam
   Dim lngRound As Long
   Dim lngGame As Long
   Dim lngGameCount As Long
   Dim lngTeam As Long
   Dim blnTeamsEven As Boolean

   Set oTournament = New clsTournament
   Set Rounds = New Collection
   Set Teams = New Collection

   ReDim aoTeam(lngNoofTeams)

   blnTeamsEven = (lngNoofTeams / 2 = Int(lngNoofTeams / 2)) ' True if number of teams is even
   lngNoOfRounds = lngNoRounds() ' Calculate no of rounds
   lngNoOfGames = lngNoGames() ' Calculate no of games per round

   For lngTeam = 1 To lngNoofTeams ' Create all the Team objects, add them to Teams collection and retrieve names from Data sheet
      Set oTeam = New clsTeam
      Teams.Add oTeam
      Set aoTeam(lngTeam) = oTeam
   Next

   Set oTournament.TeamAdd = Teams ' Add teams to Tournament Teams collection

   Blah... Blah... Blah...

 End Sub

Names are added here:

Code:
Sub Populate_Team_Names()
   Dim oTeam As clsTeam
   Dim lngTeam As Long

   lngTeam = 1

   For Each oTeam In Teams ' Retrieve team names from Data sheet
      oTeam.Name = Range("Team_Names").Offset(lngTeam).Value
      oTeam.Colour = Range("Team_Names").Offset(lngTeam).Interior.Color
      lngTeam = lngTeam + 1
   Next

End Sub

Where exactly did you declare Teams?

If I declare Teams in a standard module I can refer to it in other modules simply using Teams.

Is there anything else going on in your code?

In a standard module, Main_Procs: (I can send you the workbook, but only if you're curious! Don't want to impose)
