Hi,
Is there a way to simplify the below Formula?
Code:
=IF(INDEX('Data Sheet'!$A$1:$P$73,MATCH(A3,'Data Sheet'!$A$1:$A$73,0),12)=0,"N/A",INDEX('Data Sheet'!$A$1:$P$73,MATCH(A3,'Data Sheet'!$A$1:$A$73,0),12))

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
try this

=IF(VLOOKUP(a3,'Data Sheet'!$A$1:$p$73,12,0)=0,"N/A",VLOOKUP(a3,'Data Sheet'!$A$1:$p$73,12,0))

Thanks snjpverma,
The VLOOKUP works the same. The reason I am using index because there are left and right lookups in other formulas. I was hoping there is way without having to type the formula twice.

DHayes, I can't think of a way in which writing the formula twice can be avoided. incase, anything strikes my mind, will let you know.

Hi,
Is there a way to simplify the below Formula?

Is the zero result because there is a zero in column L or because there is a blank cell? What is in column L - is it numbers or text or can it be both?

Hi FormR,
Yes it will be always be 0. Column L contains number's only. There will never be a blank or text.

Here is one way, note: this has the potential to introduce floating point rounding errors so depending on what you are doing with the returned values you may be better off sticking with the IF() approach or you may want to apply some rounding the result.

=IFERROR(1/(1/INDEX('Data Sheet'!$A$1:$P$73,MATCH(A3,'Data Sheet'!$A$1:$A$73,0),12)),"N/A")
