When I try and use data validation for a column in a named table, using data in anther named table I get an error " we found an error with your formula..." about using the '=' part.

Allow: List
Source: =deptlist

Everywhere online this is the solution but it doesn't seem to work for me!?

Excel Facts

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
Is deptlist a named range, or just the column name in a different table?

It is a 'table' reference which... Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh. I have the dumb. I was referencing the table range and not the actual range using the table. Thank you so much for knocking the cotton wool out of my brain. So sorry. It works now. *embarrassed*
