Sorting problem

I have a column that represents a Quote number that starts with the number 100-18DS01 and ends with 999-18DS07. I sort in a descending manner with the last quote created being 999-18DS07. After creating quote number 1000-18DS07 and 1001-18DS07 and then clicking the sort button it put the two new quotes at the bottom of the column as 1000-18DS07 and 1001-18DS07. It should show as follows:

1001-DS1807
1000-DS1807
999-DS1807
998-DS1807
etc...

Can anyone help me with this?

You could add a helper column like below and sort descending on it. Hide the helper column if you wish.

When I sort it puts 999 at the top and the last 3 in the column are 1002, 1001, 1000

Do you have headers on the raw data and helper columns?

Can you post the raw data that leads to the result you describe, and the exact formula you used in the helper column?
