Selecting a range with VBA with partially derived value

I'm trying to get VBA to select a range from G8 to the last used cell in column A. I can get the row for the last cell with
Code:
Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
How do I combine the row value with A to select the range I want? my best guess is something like
Code:
Dim ws As Worksheet
ws = Worksheets("sheet")
Dim C As Long
C = Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
    ws.Range(A & C:"G8").select
I'm not sure how to format the indirect cell reference in VBA, and it's obviously wrong here. Any tips?

Thanks

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Code:
Option Explicit

Sub abe()
Dim lr As Long
lr = Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
'This will select all cells in column G from row 8 to last row
Range("G8:G" & lr).Select
End Sub
