In a particular cell we have multiple lines (separated by alt + enter), I need to be able to get a number of these entries. For example if in this cell I have A A A C on separate lines within the same cell, I want the formula to return 3 for A and 1 for C. At the moment it is returning 1 for both. Formula is =COUNTIF(A1,"*A*")

Thank you in advance

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Re: Help with COUNTIF Formula

The COUNTIF function counts cells, not text within a cell.

Try this...

=LEN(A1)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A1,"A",""))
